Restoring Nature at Lower Food Production Costs
نویسندگان
چکیده
Growing competition for land, water and energy call global strategies ensuring affordable food production at minimum environmental impacts. Economic modelling studies suggest trade-off relationships between sustainability prices. However, evidence based on empirical cost-functions supporting such trade-offs remains scarce the level. Here, cost engineering modelling, we show that optimised spatial allocation of 10 major crops, would reduce current costs agricultural by approximately 40% while improving performance. Although inputs per unit output increase local scales, a reduction cultivated land 50% overcompensates slightly higher field-scale enabling improved overall cost-effectiveness. Our results long-run prices are bound to continue decrease under strong policies. Policies transitions in sector should focus managing barriers implementation high-yield regenerative practices delivering multiple regional public goods.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction surgery has significantly evolved in recent years. This has led to development of new technologies that facilitate the diagnosis of ACL injury and the application of state of the art methods for treatment. In particular, individualized anatomical ACL reconstruction aims to restore native ACL function. Treatment is tailored to each patient based on...
متن کاملUsing Metaphors in Restoring Nature
There has recently been growing interest in the role of metaphors in environmentalism and nature conservation. Metaphors not only structure how we perceive and think but also how we should act. The metaphor of nature as a book provokes a different attitude and kind of nature management than the metaphor of nature as a machine, an organism, or a network. This article explores four clusters of me...

BACKGROUND Current dilemmas of health care systems call for a new look at the nature of health. This is offered by the Meikirch model. We explore its hypothetical benefit for the future of medicine and public health. Meikirch model: It states: "Health is a dynamic state of wellbeing emergent from conducive interactions between individuals' potentials, life's demands, and social and environmenta...
